Texas Seniors could be hit with double-digit Medicare premium increases by 2020.
Act now to save $$$.
Congress has decided to completely eliminate plan F and Plan C for sale beginning in January 2020. Any new enrollees in Medicare will no longer have these two plans as an option for purchase. In years past, the plan F was the most popular plan and offered coverage on a Guaranteed Issue basis to those who qualified under a special enrollment period.
This could spell massive increases on Plan F and C as new enrollees will not be able to participate in these plans, leaving older and sicker patients who cannot switch to lower cost plans in them. Insurance companies who offer C and F will still be required to renew existing customers in these plans which could drive premiums sky high and cause a shock to the system. Fortunately, there are several other Medicare Supplement plans available on the market now such as plan D and G and. D and G work similar to a plan F. The only significant difference is these two plans do not cover the Medicare part B deductible like plan F currently does.
The annual part B deductible is a very low 185.00 annual deductible. Savvy seniors have discovered it is wise to take a plan and pay this small deductible out of pocket because insurance companies will price them anywhere from 300 to as much as 600 dollars per year lower! This means you still save hundreds of dollars a year by changing to D or G over the F even after you meet your annual 185.00 deductibles.
If you have had a Medicare Supplement policy for a year or two, you probably have experienced a few rate increases already. However, these rate increases could pale in comparison to what is about to take hold in the Medicare Supplement market in January 2020. Fortunately, you can protect yourself now by moving to a lower cost plan, potentially saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year. Just by making a few simple adjustments to your coverage you could save big without forfeiting any of the other benefits of owning a Medigap plan.
Some of these key benefits to owning a Medicare Supplement policy are:
- You can change your plan any time throughout the year. Only Medicare Advantage plans and Part D prescription plans have an Annual Enrollment Period. This means if you are paying 40 to 50 dollars a month more than you need to or have experienced rate increases over the last several years, you can switch to a lower cost plan now and start saving immediately.
- Medigap policies are guaranteed renewable for life
- Medigap plans allow you to see any doctor or hospital anywhere in the nation that accepts original Medicare, so there are no networks to worry about and you have complete freedom to pick your own doctor.
- Medigap plans are designed to cover the coinsurance and deductibles left off by Original Medicare. This means you will not be saddled with very high out of pocket medical expenses for Medicare-approved charges should you get sick.
